We are seeking funding to continue and expand the COOLER CLImates Program!
COOLER (Community Collaboration and Learning for Climate Resilience) aims to bolster the professional workforce and build a learning ecosystem around climate resilience by engaging University of Northern Colorado (UNCO) undergraduate students and faculty, and Community-Based Organizations (CBOs).
The COOLER Climate Leadership Institute (CLImates) aims to develop climate change solutions that are sustainable and impactful at a local level in Northern Colorado. In 2024-25 we ran our pilot program supported by funds from the National Science Foundation. That program brought together a community of undergraduate students, faculty, and community-based organizations to work on collaborative projects that have an impact on things like waste management and recycling, art and music, air quality, severe weather readiness, and public health. We hope to expand COOLER’s offerings and provide more opportunities for students to gain professional experience and support community climate resilience, while helping to build capacity for faculty and CBO's to address local climate change issues.
Please contact gifts@unco.edu to ask how you can support us. Let them know you would like to support the COOLER CLImates program, coordinated through the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences.
